Celebrating Eid – A Time for Joy and Unity
Eid is a significant celebration in Islam, marking either the end of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) or the act of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice (Eid al-Adha). Both occasions are marked by special prayers, community gatherings, and expressions of gratitude.
The Eid prayer, performed in the morning, is an important part of the celebration. It is followed by a sermon (khutbah), which offers spiritual guidance. After the prayer, Muslims visit family and friends, exchange greetings, and share festive meals, strengthening social bonds.
During both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, charity plays a key role. Zakat al-Fitr is given during Eid al-Fitr to ensure that all can celebrate, while during Eid al-Adha, Qurbani (sacrificial offering) is shared with those in need.
Eid is also marked by wearing new clothes, feasting, and giving gifts, creating a joyous atmosphere while deepening the sense of unity, gratitude, and community.
